WELCOME! The Got Assets? Initiative serves Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in building Healthy Communities, Healthy Youth through the use of Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets Framework.

Whether you are a parent, a teacher, a community member, a religious leader, or just an adult who wants to help kids, you can begin building assets today.  This positive approach to youth development is not about crisis management, although young people who have these assets face fewer crises.  It is not about stopping and preventing problems, although young people who have these assets face and create fewer problems.  Instead, it is about investing wisely in our youth, increasing their exposure to positive, constructive activities, and instilling values and skills that will guide them from the inside*.

When people first learn about the assets and their power to change lives and communities, many want to get started right away.  Go for it!  We hope this website provides you with the tips and tools you need to get started*.

The Got Assets? Initiative, PUSD, and Faz Pleasanton are taking a stand against bullying by offering a Free community forum featuring Calvin Terrell Thursday March 22nd from 630-830 at Faz Four point Sheraton Pleasanton.

Calvin Terrell, uses a unique interactive approach that engages audience members in discussions about the spectrum of bullying and violence, strategies to prevent bullying and violence and the need for a culture of collaboration.

Bullying is a problem! Bullying hurts all of us…. Peer bullying is the most widespread form of violence in schools. This epidemic traverses through all age groups, ethnicities, genders, sexual identity, and socio-economic class. The cost of bullying is pervasive and in many cases devastating. Many of its targets experience bullying as traumatic, leading to chronic anxiety, depression, school absenteeism, and in extreme cases suicide and school shootings.

Addressing bullying must be a priority. We need to stop labeling; there are not bullies only bullying behavior. We need to help our kids move from competition with each other to working together collaboratively. We need to help them to understand tolerance, respect and inclusiveness. How do we do this? 40 Developmental Assets provides positive experiences and qualities that all of us have the power to bring into the lives of young people.
